What is it
Ratio at GCSE covers simplifying ratios, sharing amounts in a given ratio, and solving problems that combine ratio with other topics like fractions, percentages, and geometry (such as similar shapes).
Why it matters
Ratio problems are a favourite way for exam papers to test whether you can combine several skills at once, so it's rarely tested in total isolation — strong ratio skills unlock marks across the whole paper.
Exam tip
For sharing-in-a-ratio problems, always find the value of 'one part' first by dividing the total by the sum of the ratio parts — this single step prevents almost every common ratio mistake.
