KS4 / GCSE · Chemistry

Using Resources

What is it

Students learn about the Earth's finite and renewable resources, sustainable development, potable water production, waste water treatment, life cycle assessments, and recycling of metals.

Why it matters

This closing chemistry topic ties the whole subject to sustainability and resource management, an increasingly important theme across every science exam board's questions.

Exam tip

For life cycle assessment questions, structure your answer around all four stages — extracting/processing raw materials, manufacturing, use, disposal — mark schemes award credit stage by stage.
