What is it

Children learn to construct simple series circuits, identify and name basic components (cells, wires, bulbs, switches, buzzers), and predict whether a lamp will light based on whether the circuit is complete.

Why it matters

Building real circuits by hand gives children hands-on intuition for a complete circuit that underpins every later study of current, voltage and resistance at KS3 and GCSE physics.

Exam tip

Always check the circuit forms one unbroken loop before predicting whether a bulb lights — the single most common reason a predicted answer is marked wrong is missing a gap in the circuit diagram.
