What is it
Transformations describe how a shape changes position or size on a grid — covering translations (sliding), reflections (flipping), rotations (turning) and enlargements (resizing), each described precisely using specific rules.
Why it matters
Transformations build spatial reasoning that's directly useful in design, engineering and computer graphics, and they connect to vectors (translations) and similarity (enlargements) elsewhere in the GCSE syllabus.
Exam tip
For enlargements, always state the scale factor and the centre of enlargement together — giving one without the other is one of the most common ways marks are lost.
