What is it
Forces covers identifying and resolving forces acting on an object (like weight, normal reaction, friction and tension), and using force diagrams to analyse objects in equilibrium or under acceleration.
Why it matters
Correctly identifying every force acting on an object is the essential first step of nearly every mechanics problem — a missing or extra force in the diagram makes every subsequent calculation wrong, no matter how good the algebra is.
Exam tip
Draw a complete force diagram before writing a single equation, and resolve forces into perpendicular (usually horizontal and vertical) components — skipping the diagram is the most common source of errors in force problems.
