What is it
Kinematics is the study of motion — displacement, velocity, and acceleration — without considering the forces that cause it, using the SUVAT equations to solve problems involving constant acceleration.
Why it matters
Kinematics is the foundation the entire Mechanics module is built on — every later mechanics topic (forces, momentum, projectiles) describes motion using the same displacement-velocity-acceleration framework introduced here.
Exam tip
Write out all known and unknown SUVAT values in a list before choosing which equation to use — this simple habit makes selecting the correct SUVAT equation almost automatic, rather than a matter of guesswork.
