What is it
Students study current, potential difference and resistance in series and parallel circuits, Ohm's law, circuit component characteristics (resistors, diodes, LDRs, thermistors), mains electricity, and power and energy transfer calculations.
Why it matters
Electricity is one of the most heavily weighted and calculation-dense GCSE physics topics, and required-practical circuit questions appear on essentially every paper.
Exam tip
Learn the V = IR triangle and P = IV triangle together, and practise switching between them — many exam questions require combining both formulas in a single multi-step calculation.
