What is it

This topic covers energy stores and transfers with full calculations (kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy, specific heat capacity), conservation of energy, efficiency calculations, and energy resources in more quantitative depth than KS3.

Why it matters

Energy is the required opening topic for GCSE physics on every exam board and its core equations (like KE = ½mv²) reappear constantly across forces, electricity and even some chemistry calculations.

Exam tip

Keep an equation sheet of every energy formula and practise substituting numbers in with correct units every time — physics calculation marks are lost overwhelmingly to unit errors, not conceptual mistakes.
