What is it
This topic covers conservation of mass, relative formula mass, moles and the mole calculation triangle, percentage yield, concentration calculations, and (on some specifications) titration.
Why it matters
This is the most mathematical topic in GCSE chemistry and is disproportionately important for higher grades, since calculation questions carry heavy marks and reward accurate method as well as the final answer.
Exam tip
Always show every step of a calculation, including units, even if the final number is wrong — GCSE mark schemes award method marks for correct working shown along the way.
