Magnetism and Electromagnetism
What is it
Students learn about magnetic fields around bar magnets and the Earth, and how an electric current creates a magnetic field, including how this is used to build an electromagnet.
Why it matters
This connects electricity and magnetism for the first time, the same connection behind how speakers, motors and generators work — all studied in more depth at GCSE physics.
Exam tip
Practise drawing magnetic field lines from north to south pole, with lines closer together where the field is stronger — field-line diagrams are one of the most commonly drawn/interpreted exam elements.
