Simultaneous Equations
What is it
Simultaneous equations are two or more equations with the same unknowns that are true at the same time — solving them means finding the values that satisfy every equation together, usually using elimination or substitution.
Why it matters
Simultaneous equations model real situations where two conditions must hold at once — from pricing problems to physics — and they're a core GCSE topic that also underpins later work with graphs of intersecting lines.
Exam tip
After solving, always substitute both values back into the original equations to check they work — this single check catches the vast majority of arithmetic slips before they cost marks.
