What is it
Students learn about the structure of the solar system, gravity as the force that keeps planets in orbit, and how the relative distances and sizes of objects in space compare, extending KS2's Earth and Space topic.
Why it matters
This introduces gravity as a genuine force with a cause and effect (not just 'things fall down'), directly preparing for GCSE physics' orbital motion and gravitational field topics.
Exam tip
Understand that a stronger gravitational pull causes a faster orbital speed and a shorter orbit time — this cause-and-effect relationship is tested more than raw factual recall.
