Programming Projects
What is it
Postgraduate programming project support covers planning, structuring, and executing substantial software projects — including scoping realistic project goals, applying appropriate software engineering practices at a research scale, and documenting code well enough for it to be reproducible and extensible.
Why it matters
A postgraduate programming project is often judged as much on its process and documentation as on its final output — code that works but cannot be understood, reproduced, or extended by anyone else falls well short of the standard expected of genuine research or professional software work.
Exam tip
Scope your project deliberately smaller than your initial ambition and build outward from a working core — a project that attempts too much from the outset commonly ends in an impressive plan but an incomplete, unreliable final product.
