What is it

A-Level algebra builds on GCSE with more advanced techniques — algebraic fractions, the factor and remainder theorems, partial fractions, and solving more complex equations and inequalities.

Why it matters

Every other Pure Maths topic — calculus, trigonometry, sequences — is expressed and manipulated using this more advanced algebra, so fluency here directly determines how much time you spend fighting the algebra instead of the actual problem.

Exam tip

Practise algebraic fractions and partial fractions until the process is automatic — these skills quietly appear inside integration and differentiation questions where the algebra, not the calculus, is what actually trips students up.
