Homeostasis and Response

What is it

This topic covers how the body maintains a stable internal environment, the nervous system and reflex arcs, the endocrine system and hormones (including blood glucose regulation and the menstrual cycle), and how plants respond to stimuli.

Why it matters

Homeostasis explains real medical conditions students may already know about, like diabetes, making abstract biology concretely relevant, and it's one of the most exam-board-favoured topics for extended-response questions.

Exam tip

Learn the reflex arc pathway in order — stimulus, receptor, sensory neurone, relay neurone, motor neurone, effector, response — this exact sequence is a very common labelling and ordering question.
