What is it
GCSE Foundation transformations covers describing and carrying out translations, reflections, rotations and enlargements on a coordinate grid, including with negative and fractional scale factors.
Why it matters
Transformation questions are marked on precise, complete description — 'rotate 90° clockwise about (2, 3)' is a full answer, while 'rotate it' is not — making clear mathematical language as important as the geometry itself.
Exam tip
For every transformation, describe it fully using the exact required vocabulary — a reflection needs a mirror line, a rotation needs an angle, direction and centre, and an enlargement needs a scale factor and centre. Missing any one loses marks.
