What is it
GCSE Foundation vectors covers describing translations using column vectors, and adding, subtracting and finding multiples of vectors — the same core ideas introduced at KS3, applied to slightly more complex problems.
Why it matters
Vector notation is used consistently through to A-Level, where it becomes essential for mechanics and further geometry — building confidence with the basic column vector notation now avoids a stumbling block later.
Exam tip
When multiplying a vector by a scalar (a number), multiply both the top and bottom numbers by that scalar — forgetting to multiply both parts is the most common vector error at this level.
