What is it
Children learn that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults, and can describe the basic stages of human growth from baby to old age, alongside how to look after themselves for good health (exercise, food, hygiene).
Why it matters
This early awareness of life stages and healthy habits builds the foundation for the more detailed study of reproduction, growth and health that appears at KS2, KS3 and GCSE biology.
Exam tip
Be able to put the human life stages in the correct order (baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, elderly) — sequencing questions are a common way this is tested.
