What is it
Children learn to identify and name common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees, and describe the basic structure of a plant — roots, stem, leaves, flowers — using simple, correct vocabulary.
Why it matters
Naming and observing real plants builds the habit of careful, first-hand scientific observation that every later biology topic depends on, and it plants (quite literally) an early curiosity about the living world.
Exam tip
Practise pointing to and naming each part of a real plant or a clear picture — questions at this level almost always ask children to label a diagram, so confident vocabulary matters more than depth.
