Position & Direction
What is it
Position and direction covers describing where things are using words like above, below, left, right, and describing movement — whole, half and quarter turns, and simple directions like forwards and backwards.
Why it matters
This topic is the earliest form of spatial reasoning and coordinate thinking a child encounters — a direct forerunner to plotting points on a graph years later.
Exam tip
Simple 'follow my directions' games — guiding a toy or even a sibling around a room — turn an abstract topic into something a child can physically feel and understand.
