What is it
Geometry at KS1 introduces recognising, naming and describing common 2D shapes (like squares and triangles) and 3D shapes (like cubes and spheres), including their properties such as sides and corners.
Why it matters
Spotting shapes in the everyday world builds spatial awareness early — a skill that supports everything from geometry proofs at GCSE to practical skills like map-reading.
Exam tip
Go on a 'shape hunt' around the house or garden — finding real cylinders, cubes and triangles makes the properties of each shape stick far better than a printed worksheet.
