What is it
Students learn about different energy stores (kinetic, thermal, chemical, gravitational, elastic) and how energy is transferred between them, along with the principle that energy is always conserved, never created or destroyed.
Why it matters
Conservation of energy is one of physics' most fundamental laws, and the energy-stores model here is the exact one extended with calculations at GCSE physics.
Exam tip
When describing an energy transfer, always name the starting store AND the ending store (e.g. 'chemical to kinetic and thermal') — naming only one store loses marks.
