What is it
Logic gates are tiny electronic circuits that take one or more binary inputs (0s and 1s) and produce a single binary output, based on a rule — like AND (output is 1 only if both inputs are 1) or OR (output is 1 if either input is 1).
Why it matters
Every calculation a computer performs, no matter how complex, is ultimately built from combinations of these simple gates. They're the bridge between the physical electronics and the programs you write.
Exam tip
Learn to draw truth tables for AND, OR and NOT gates from memory — questions often ask you to complete or interpret one, and the pattern is the same every time.
