Structure and Function of Organisms
What is it
Students study how the human skeletal and muscular systems work together to allow movement, how the gas exchange system enables breathing, and how organ systems are adapted to their function.
Why it matters
Linking structure directly to function — 'why is it shaped this way' — is the core scientific reasoning skill GCSE biology exams reward most, more than simply recalling facts.
Exam tip
For any 'describe how X is adapted for its function' question, always name the structural feature AND explain what job it does — marks are awarded per linked point, not per fact.
