What is it
KS2 measurement extends earlier skills to converting between units (millimetres to centimetres to metres), reading scales accurately, and solving problems involving length, mass, capacity and time in combination.
Why it matters
Unit conversion is a skill that's tested constantly, not just in maths lessons but in science, D&T, and countless everyday situations — cooking, travel, DIY — throughout a child's life.
Exam tip
Build a simple 'conversion ladder' (mm → cm → m → km) that a child can sketch from memory in an exam — it removes the guesswork about which way to multiply or divide.
