What is it

Volume measures how much three-dimensional space a shape takes up — for simple shapes like cuboids, it's calculated by multiplying length × width × height.

Why it matters

Volume connects directly to real-world estimation and problem-solving — from how much water fills a container to how many boxes fit in a room — and it's the natural next step after mastering area.

Exam tip

Always double-check that all three measurements are in the same unit before multiplying — mixing centimetres and metres is one of the most common errors in volume questions.
