Times Tables Practice

What is it

Times tables practice covers memorising and confidently recalling multiplication facts up to 12×12, along with related division facts, through regular short bursts of focused practice rather than long study sessions.

Why it matters

Quick recall of times tables is the foundation almost every other primary maths topic builds on — from long multiplication to fractions to area and perimeter — and children who haven't mastered them find every later topic harder than it needs to be.

Exam tip

Practise little and often (5–10 minutes daily) rather than cramming — and always practise the facts a child hesitates on, not just the ones they already know well, since those hesitant ones are exactly where marks get lost under time pressure.
