What is it

Students learn how elements are arranged in the periodic table by increasing atomic number, organised into groups and periods, and how an element's position relates to its properties, including the distinction between metals and non-metals.

Why it matters

The periodic table is chemistry's single most powerful organising tool — understanding its pattern-based logic here makes GCSE's detailed study of groups (like Group 1 and Group 7) far more intuitive.
