What is it

Engineering differential equations apply the general theory to specific real systems — modelling electrical circuits, mechanical vibrations, and control systems — often using Laplace transforms as the primary solution technique.

Why it matters

This is where the abstract theory of differential equations meets genuine engineering practice — every circuit, suspension system, and control loop an engineer designs is ultimately described and analysed using exactly these equations.

Exam tip

When modelling a physical system, write out the governing equation directly from physical laws (like Kirchhoff's voltage law for circuits) before attempting to solve it — getting the model itself right matters more than the solution technique that follows.
