Laplace Transforms
What is it
A Laplace transform converts a function of time into a function of a complex frequency variable, turning differential equations into algebraic equations that are often far easier to solve.
Why it matters
Laplace transforms are the standard engineering tool for solving the differential equations that describe circuits, control systems, and mechanical systems — converting a hard calculus problem into simple algebra is a genuine practical shortcut used throughout engineering.
Exam tip
Keep a table of standard Laplace transform pairs handy and learn to recognise the standard forms — most exam and real-world problems are solved by matching an equation to a known transform pair rather than deriving the transform from the definition each time.
