Multiple Integration

What is it

Multiple integration extends integration to functions of several variables, using double integrals to find volumes under surfaces and triple integrals to find quantities distributed through 3D space.

Why it matters

Multiple integrals are how mass, centre of mass, and probability are calculated for objects and distributions that vary across two or three dimensions — essential wherever a quantity isn't uniformly spread out.

Exam tip

Before evaluating a double or triple integral, sketch the region of integration and determine sensible limits for each variable — attempting the algebra before understanding the geometry of the region is where most errors begin.
