What is it
Measurement at KS1 covers comparing and measuring length, height, weight and capacity using both informal units (like 'longer than my hand') and standard units like centimetres and kilograms.
Why it matters
Measurement connects maths directly to the physical world a child already understands, which makes it one of the most naturally motivating topics — and it lays the groundwork for area, perimeter and volume later on.
Exam tip
Let your child measure things around the house with a ruler or kitchen scale — hands-on measuring builds far stronger number sense than measuring on paper.
