Measure Theory
What is it
Measure theory rigorously generalises the notion of length, area, and volume to a much broader class of sets, providing the formal foundation for modern probability theory and the Lebesgue integral, a more powerful alternative to the Riemann integral.
Why it matters
Measure theory resolves subtle issues with integration and probability that the elementary treatment simply cannot handle — without it, meaningfully defining probability on continuous, infinite, or otherwise pathological sample spaces isn't rigorously possible.
Exam tip
Build measure-theoretic intuition by relating each new concept back to ordinary length and area first — a measure is fundamentally an assignment of 'size' to sets, and holding onto that concrete anchor makes the more abstract machinery far less intimidating.
